Kiholo Bay and the Queen's Bath

We all went for a hike to Kiholo Bay in search of the Queen's Bath - an ancient lava tube now filled with fresh water from an underground spring. We had a swim around the bay, saw tons of sea turtles, and went for a dip in the Queen's Bath. The lava tube apparently goes back for a quarter mile or so, but without flashlights we only went in a few hundred feet. Next time we're definitely bringing flashlights!

Andrew built a snowman!!

Last weekend, while Diane and I went to the beach (Arch City) and I got sunburned . . . Andrew went with some friends to the top of the volcano (Mauna Kea) to play in the snow! Afterwards, they all came back to our place to go swimming at the pool and hang out in the jacuzzi.

Arch City hike

About a 45 minute drive south of where we live is a one mile or so stretch of coast with over a dozen sea arches - nicknamed 'Arch City'. It's hard to find and not marked or signposted, which makes it more fun to seek out the big arches. And believe me, if the photo looks scary, it is way scarier in real life standing on some of those arches! The waves were particularly big when we were there, and I snapped a photo just a second before Diane got wiped out by a huge wave (see below). Luckily she wasn't standing on an arch at that time.

White Road trail to Waipio Valley on the Big Island

We drove to the north of our island for a hike to the back of Waipio Valley. The start of the hike begins by climbing over the gate covered with Keep Out signs! But the spectacular views are well worth the risk. Plus we had the whole trail to ourselves today, not another person in sight.

Honolulu for the day

We all flew to Oahu for the day, courtesy of Mokulele Airlines, for a mooch around Honolulu. We went for lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory, and then had a walk down Ala Moana Beach Park (see the attached photo) and then on to Waikiki Beach.
